Glencoe,
Kentucky Some say the name of the town on the southeast edge of Gallatin County comes from a “glen of crows”, and others say it’s derived from our sister city in Scotland. Glencoe is located at the site of a natural mill race on Eagle Creek, which was probably what attracted the first known property owners there by 1790. However, the coming of the railroad in the mid 1800s caused its greatest prosperity. The town was incorporated in 1876 and reached its highest growth in 1940 when an egg hatchery and canning factory were located there. Today, the trains run regularly through the middle of Glencoe as US 127 passes over its tracks, between the general store and post office.
